Pokud bydlíte ve velkém městě a les máte dost daleko, pak stín v zahradě je důležitou složkou její ozdravné funkce. To ví samozřejmě každý, Už před mnoha léty jsem přišel na to, že pro mne některé působení stínu má mimořádný význam pro uklidnění a pohodu. Všimli jste si někdy, že ležíte pod velkým stromem ve stínu a hledíte do koruny a že to má zvláštní psychiku? Nakonec my staří máte v sobě název básně Svatopluka Čecha „Ve stínu lípy“. Není v zahradě stín jako stín. Mám hodně stromů, ale nejlepší stín vrhá strom MAGNOLIA TRIPETALA. Proč, to nevím. Ale přišlo na to moc lidí na světě a tak se tento strom jmenuje anglicky UMBRELLA MAGNOLIA / deštníkový resp. slunečníkový strom /. Původem je ze Severní Ameriky. Má relativně obrovské listy, rozhodně největší ze všech stromů v mém okolí. Dorůstá za 50 let /zatím u mne / 8 – 10 m výšky. Má velmi zajímavé květy a šišky. Šišky se skvěle hodí do suché vazby. Ničím netrpí, je zcela odolný – vřele doporučuji do velkých zahrad.
